Madonna Q magazine Cover

This issue of Q magazine have used the icon of Madonna. The main feature is the picture of Madonna which is used as the background cover of the magazine which attracts an older audience. All text and boxes are placed over the top of the magazine. The magazine name is the only thing that goes behind the picture as this is so people will know the name of the magazine but wants to know whats going to be inside the magazine. The logo Q is the same location, colour and font as on the other issues making it easily recognisable.
The name of the artist "Madonna" is in a red font which goes across the middle of the magazine. Its extremley eye catching due to its size and bright colour. The colour and font matches other pieces of text.
Across the bottom of the magazine is a clear band to advertise the special offer included in the magazine and gives the reader an insight to whats going to be included. Matching to this special feature is a small rectangle in the top corner which tells people about the bumper issue. It overlaps the name of the magazine which shows its an important topic of this issue.
Theres a list of artists names next to the picture of the celebrity Madonna which also attracts readers who are interested in these artitsts and also relates back to the genre being of a indie/rock genre.

  1. Basic analysis - but to get your grade up you must start thinking about analysing in terms of demography. What lifestyle is the cover appealing to? Age? Gender? Race?

  2. Madonnas original target audience is of an older audience due to Madonna being of an older age. Madonna has tried to now target herself at a younger audience such as teenagers to compete with other female artists in the music industry. Madonna has tried to target a younger audience by her glamourous makeup, hair and sexual pose as to be a icon/role model girls in todays society aspire to be like. Madonnas targeting a more upper class people who would be able to afford the glamour and wealth Madonna symbolizes. Madonna's costume of a hodie maybe targeting a more working class audience but Madonnas glamourous wealth style is being represented by a gold rim around the hood and the gold colour is symbolic of money, bling ect which then relates to people of upper class. This shows q magazine is appealing to a materialistic lifestyle. Q magazine has used Madonna to attract both men and women to the magazine. she's been used to look sexy and attractive for men and then been shown as strong and independant and an inspiration for women.
In my opinion Madonna isn't targeting one particular race in general but obviously as madonna is of a white race, she may attract the white race more due to young white girls wanting to look like her ect.
